3d Lacrosse Denver Shootout 2020 – Livestream Tournament

We Covered the Action – Live!

Last weekend BCC Live was asked to livestream the 3d Lacrosse Denver Shootout tournament at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. Teams from around the country participated in the tournament. We were there to broadcast the action.

Several teams from the Texas region contacted us to livestream their tournaments since parents and spectators weren’t allowed in the fields due to mandatory Covid-19 restrictions. We took all the necessary precautions – wore masks, brought hand sanitizer and kept our distance from the players, coaches and officials.

With a small crew, we brought our Sony PXW-X70 cameras and Teradek backpacks which allow us to use bonded cellular data to send the live feed directly into our studio in Boulder without any signal loss. From there, our video production team, in conjunction with our graphic designer, created the final product the families of the young lacrosse players were able to watch on our dedicated Livestream TV channel.

The Sony PXW-X70 is BCC’s trusted all-around work horse.
Shown here is Backpack “Orion” (we’ve named our fleet of backpacks after NASA Spacecraft 😎). In an all-in-one, easy to carry, and comfortable form-factor, the Teradek Backpacks allow us to simply connect a camera via SDI and stream from places never before thought possible.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
The brains inside the Teradek Backpack – the Cube 755. This encoder boasts some the industry’s greatest technologies, aggregating 4 cellular modems from different carriers into one bonded internet connection. Encoding with the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), or H.265 codec, we could reliably stream in real-time back to our Boulder studio at 1080p 30fps with a mere 2Mbps upload speed.
Once the video signal is encoded to Teradek’s Cloud Service, we then decode it back to usable video in Boulder, CO with multiple Teradek T-Rax cards. From there, signal is sent to a NewTek TC-1 for video switching, and finally to a Macbook Pro running Vimeo’s Livestream Studio software to add graphics before hitting Vimeo Live.

By setting up riser camera platforms, we placed ourselves above the ground. The elevation gave us a vantage point where we were able to capture all the plays with wide as well as close up shots of the players without any visibility or blocking issues.

Our team was able to livestream two games simultaneously on different fields. Even with only a six-minute break between games, we were able to deliver pre-game and post-game shots of the teams for anyone watching. It was the closest thing to actually being there supporting their team.

The weather throughout the weekend was stellar. BCC Live had a great time watching lacrosse games for three days!

And for a little bit of…Did you know?!?
Here are some fun facts about Lacrosse:

  1. Lacrosse is the fastest sport on two feet played in the world.

  3. There are four different types of lacrosse, field lacrosse (which is the one we broadcasted), women’s lacrosse, box lacrosse, and intercrosse.
  4. Lacrosse is the fastest-growing high school sport in the nation.
